The exact cost of the deal is unknown. With this asset, the global e-commerce firm will be ushering into a new era of digital collecting. It will help eBay become the number one stop for collectibles.
eBay gave details of the acquisition of leading NFT marketplace KnownOrigin in a press release on June 22, 2022.
Jamie Iannone, CEO said: “eBay is the first stop for people across the globe who are searching for that perfect, hard-to-find, or unique addition to their collection and, with this acquisition, we will remain a leading site as our community is increasingly adding digital collectibles.”
Jamie added that KnownOrigin is a foremost NFT marketplace that has built an inspiring, fervent, and devoted assembly of artists and collectors. Also, they are an ideal addendum to eBay’s community of sellers and buyers.
The global e-commerce firm is in a phase of metamorphosis and is upgrading its technology, performance, and customer experience.
The platform is already buying and selling of NFTs since May 2021. Its CEO has also hinted that in future it will also start accepting Cryptocurrencies.
