Ethereum Merge Schedule Confirmed

The Ethereum Foundation has now confirmed that it will transition from proof of work to proof of stake consensus. Detailing the changeover, Ethereum stated that the Bellatrix upgrade is scheduled for on September 6, as scheduled earlier. The terminal total difficulty value which will precipitate the Merge at 58750000000000000000000 is expected between Sept 10-20.

Ethereum Mainnet Schedule

As per the developers the public testnets have been successfully upgraded and the Merge has been programmed for the Ethereum Mainnet. First to conclude will be the Bellatrix network upgrade on the consensus layer. This will be followed by the execution layer’s transition from proof-of-work to proof of Stake which will be initiated by a specific total difficulty threshold called the terminal total difficulty.

Ethereum is making the changeover to proof of stake from proof of work. The Merge upgrade is not going to be smooth and hiccups are bound to happen. The first step in the changeover will be the Beacon Chain with the Bellatrix upgrade. And the whole platform based on POW will be transitioned to proof-of-stake upon hitting a specific Total Difficulty value.
