The Ethereum 2.0 client Teku releases required to prepare for the Merge. The update contains the. All Ethereum Mainnet users are required to upgrade before September 6, the date of Bellatrix activation on Mainnet.

Detailing the 2.0 client Teku in a tweet on August 22, 2022, Ethereum 2.0 unveiled the release of v22.8.1. The update is mandatory for the Bellatrix upgrade which is a prelude to the Merge on September 15.

The Ethereum Merge upgrade is a process which will convert the Ethereum platform to proof of stake mode and all Mainnet nodes need to upgrade to the required Teku version. It includes joining with a local execution client’s engine API as well as a default fee recipient by validators.

It is mandatory for Mainnet nodes to upgrade both Teku and the execution client as a prelude to Merge failing which the upgrade execution clients will show “Merge transition configuration error”. The transition will be invalidated by the local terminal total difficulty (TTD) and terminal block hash mismatch with remote execution client.

The Bellatrix fork epoch and TTD for the Merge will permit configuration of multiple beacon nodes for a single validator client and also streamline the use of standard REST API. The upgrade will also add and improve settings as well as fix nagging bugs such as repeated timeout exceptions, debugs calculated payload, and PoW block.

Mainnet users must upgrade to v22.8.1 before the Bellatrix activation date on September 6.

Ethereum Developers Believe September 15 Will Be The Final Date For Ethereum Merge

Mainnet TTD of 58750000000000000000000 was confirmed in the Ethereum Core Developers meeting on August 18 and developers hope to accomplish Merge live on September 15. As per Vitalik Buterin an average hash rate of 872.2 TH/s is enough to achieve the TTD of 58750000000000000000000 on September 15.
